Twitter users are up in arms against a tweet by Malaysian Airlines (MAS) yesterday promoting its end of year specials.
The tweet which read “Want to go somewhere, but don’t know where?” was criticised for its poor choice of words and being insensitive, especially after the MH17 and MH370 incidents.
Flight MH370 was reported missing between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing with 230 passengers on-board on March 8. It has yet to be found.
Whereas the MH17 flight was shot down by rebels on July 17 while flying over Ukraine and all 298 passengers on-board perished.
Twitter users were shocked that the airlines could post such a tweet after a disaster-filled year, reported Australian website news.com.au.
Theresa Powell tweeted: “@MAS probably not the best choice of words for an airline that doesn't know where one of its planes is - just saying #mas370”
Dickie Dunn tweeted:“@MAS probably not the best choice of words for an airline that doesn't know where one of its planes is - just saying #mas370”
Kchnwtch tweeted: “@MAS Not sure I want to be on a MA plane going somewhere but don't know where??”
MAS has since deleted the said tweet and issued a statement, clarifying the social media disaster.
“A recent tweet posted regarding our year-end specials was intended to inspire travellers during this holiday period to explore destinations and deals that Malaysia Airlines is offering. Unfortunately, it unintentionally caused offence to some, and we have since removed the tweet.”
This, however, was not the first time MAS has come under fire for controversy regarding inappropriate promotions.
Earlier this year, the airlines also received flak from the public for asking Australian and New Zealand travellers to enter a competition named, “My Ultimate Bucket List”.
