Pakatan Rakyat has yet to decide whether it will endorse the Election Commission's (EC) redelineation exercise that includes additional parliamentary seats, says DAP's Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming.

He also stressed that Pakatan has yet to make any deal with the EC and the coalition must first review the maps of the redelineated boundaries.

"Pakatan Rakyat cannot accept or reject any proposal to increase the number of Parliament seats before the new maps are displayed by the EC," he told a press conference at the Parliament lobby this afternoon.

Ong was responding to a statement by electoral reform groups Bersih and Tindak Malaysia which on Nov 7 urged Pakatan not to accept an increase in Parliament seats as part of the redelineation exercise.

However, he stressed that Pakatan will not accept the increase in Parliament seats if the distribution is not equitable.

He also urged the EC to set up an independent committee for the redelineation process, citing credibility with the commission.

"At the very least, the EC needs to involve independent electoral watchdogs," he said.

He also urged the EC to engage Pakatan in the redelineation process which the opposition has largely been kept in the dark.

"We know the EC has worked closely with Umno in the past, and as such there is absolutely no reason why the commission should shun working with other political parties," he said.

Also present at the press conference were PKR's Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar and PAS' Kuala Krai MP Mohd Hatta Ramli.
