Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali has vowed that his administration will do whatever it takes to promote racial understanding and religious tolerance in Selangor.
 
“All quarters must respect Islam’s position as the state’s official religion and the right to practice one’s own religion as enshrined in the constitution.
 
“The state government would like to stress that extreme sentiments, racial provocation and religious fanaticism have no place in the Selangor state administration,” said Azmin in his 2015 Selangor budget speech today.
 
Azmin had earlier expressed his appreciation to Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor (left) for his initiative in negotiating with various quarters to solve the bible raid issue.
 
“The state government wishes to convey our appreciation to the sultan for his foresight and initiative in negotiating with various quarters for the best solution,” he said.
 
After almost a year, the Selangor government finally returned the copies of the Bible seized from the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM).
 
All 351 copies were handed over to the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS), on behalf of BSM, at Istana Alam Shah, Klang on Nov 14.
 
Commenting further on the issue, Azmin said Islam is 'rahmatan lil alamin' (blessing for all creation).
 
“The state government is an example which upholds the moderate approach, thus creating a harmonious society, conducive to development,” he said.
