PARLIAMENT The Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) findings on four mini waste incinerators built across the country by the Housing, Local Government and Urban Wellbeing Ministry have been rejected by the minister, Abdul Rahman Dahlan.

The PAC in its report released last week criticised the ministry for awarding the project through direct negotiations to XCN Technology, even though the company's technology was "unproven".

Rahman told the Dewan Rakyat today that the technology "is not a problem" and did not cause the failure of the four incinerators from operating fully and according to specifications.

"The technology is not a problem. I have to give my opinions on the PAC report. The incinerators only have problems in terms of its operations and building maintenance," he said in reply to a question from Ong Kian Ming (DAP-Serdang) during Question Time.        

The four incinerators are worth almost RM200 million.

Abdul Rahman said that XCN also had the contract to maintain the Pulau Pangkor incinerator re-awarded because the problems with the incinerator were related to the construction to the building, which can be improved over time.
 
"No project is 100 percent perfect when it is executed," he said.
 
He however stressed that the inability of these four projects to get off smoothly will not affect the ministry's ambitious Kepong incinerator project.
 
"The prime minister and the cabinet wants to make sure this incinerator will be world class," he said.
