DAP Pelawan assemblyperson Wong Kee Woan denied that he had withdrawn his statement against Nangka assemblyperson Annuar Rapa’ee for likening Annuar to the racist Ibrahim Ali.

 

Immediately after Wong made the statement, the Sarawak State Assembly speaker compelled him to withdraw his allegation.

And, Wong added, in the midst of the argument and commotion that followed, the speaker misunderstood that he had withdrawn this statement.

“Subsequently the Hansard was significantly altered and that part of my debate was not recorded.” he said in his letter today to Speaker Asfia Awang Nassar ( right ).

 

In actual fact, he said, he did not withdraw his allegation against the Annuar.

“I did not finish my sentence and I was interrupted by the speaker and my microphone was switched off,” Wong complained.

He said what the Nangka assemblyperson said in his debate was not only insulting to all those who cannot speak Bahasa Melayu well, but also showed Annuar’s intolerance of  the differences in Malaysia’s multi-racial society.

“I stand by my allegation against the Nangka assemblyperson, that his statement has the shadow of Ibrahim Ali, who is a racist,” Wong said.

He told the speaker that he did not wish to withdraw his allegation against the assemblyperson unless Annuar first withdrew his statement made in the august House and recorded verbatim.

Annuar said during a debate on Nov 11 that after 51 years of independence it was shameful that there were those who could not speak Bahasa Melayu.

Their difficulty in speaking Bahasa Melayu had deterred them from lodging police reports, as well, Annuar said.
