"The Malay reserve land which has been released by the state must be immediately replaced with other land of the same value in accordance with Article 89 (3) of the Federal Constitution.
"Up to 2013, as much as 1,999.19 hectares of Malay reserve land was degazetted but only 811.92 hectares was gazette as replacement.
"This means that 1,179.27 hectares are yet to be replaced," it said in a statement.
The statement was issued by PAS Johor commissioner Aminolhuda Hassan, DAP Johor chief Liew Chin Tong, PKR representative Steven Choong and Johor Opposition Leader Dr Boo Cheng Hau.
Sold to non-Malays
Johor Pakatan added that administrative inefficiency also means that only 9 percent of land awarded to Malays, purportedly to be gazette as Malay Reserve Land, has been gazette as such.
It said that between 2011 and 2013, 4,573 Malays were awarded 9,284.02 hectares of land for the purpose but only 412 applications were gazetted.
As these lands were not endorsed as Malay Reserve Land, as required under Section 6 of the Malay Reserve Land Enactment, some have been sold to non-Malays, they said.
Meanwhile, in a related matter, the opposition coalition gave the Johor government a thumbs up for its housing policy.
This included introducing a hire-purchase model for low-cost homes involving 5,000 units, of which 1,000 will be carved out for recipients of the zakat (tithe).
Utusan Malaysia last month reported that total reserves nationwide have gone down from 50 percent to 12 percent.
At a forum organised by Malay NGO Perkasa on the matter last month, speakers lament that the government does not have the political will to protect the reserve from depletion.
