PAS Youth wants RTD operations halted

PAS Youth has submitted a memorandum of protest against a special operation by the Road Transport Department (RTD) against strobe lights, high-intensity discharge (HID) lights and registration number plates that do not meet specifications.
The wing argued that the operation, which began on Nov 1, was causing difficulties to road users, as the road blocks for these checks were causing severe traffic congestions.

The wing argued that the operation, which began on Nov 1, was causing difficulties to road users, as the road blocks for these checks were causing severe traffic congestions.
It said RTD’s earlier reasoning that registration number plates that do not follow specifications can cause accidents is “very irrational”.
“There have never been evidence or research findings by any agency, such as the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety (Miros), Works Department, or the police that plate numbers that do not follow specifications are a cause for accidents,” the PAS Youth memorandum states.
It was submitted to RTD’s Corporate Communications Division at the RTD headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday by PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat (right).
PAS Youth also called for the postponement of the operation, for RTD to cancel all summonses issued during the operation and for a review the relevant regulations.
Meanwhile, RTD said in a statement said that the operation was in response to difficulties in pressing charges against road traffic offenders.
“For example, in most hit-and-run cases, the offenders cannot be traced as the victims or complainants were not able to see the registration number clearly,” it said.
RTD said it also hopes, through the operation, to inculcate discipline and adherence to traffic regulations among road users.
