Ten homes were damaged today after a small tornado hit Kampung Sungai Nonang in Alor Setar this afternoon.

According to Bernama , the twister which lasted 10 minutes ripped off the roofs of the home at about 2.45pm today. 

No injuries were reported.

Pictures on social media show zinc roofing strewned about.

Eyewitnesses said the tornado came from the direction of a nearby paddy field.

Four small tornadoes have hit the northern state within a month.

Another twister formed in Klang, Selangor last month.

There were no fatalities in either of the incidents.

While rare, the Meteorological Department says that Malaysia is not free from such occurences.

Meanwhile, the national newsire quoted the Fire Department as saying that first responders found "traumatised" residents.

Fire Department director of investigations Mohamad Yunus Abu said a Proton Wira was also found stuck in a mango tree about a meter off the ground.

The rescuers cut down the tree and brought the car down.

The tornado also affected a goat pen.
