Pakatan Rakyat has not made a collective decision on whether it will oppose any move by the Election Commission (EC) to increase the number of parliamentary seats in the current electoral constituency redelineation exercise.

DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke (left) told reporters at the Parliament lobby today that Pakatan will only make a decision once it sees the EC proposal and studies it.

"But if there is any attempt to add seats to help Umno, we will oppose it. The exercise must adhere to the one man, one vote principle," Loke said.

Without revealing his source, Loke said there was a move by the EC to break the Umno-held parliamentary seat of Rembau in Negeri Sembilan into two federal constituencies - Rembau and Paroi - even though Rembau only has 79,000 voters.

Loke was responding to calls from electoral reform watchdogs Bersih and Tindak Malaysia for Pakatan to reject any attempt by the EC to increase parliamentary and state consituency seats.

Any move to increase the number of seats in Parliament will need a two-thirds majority vote, which the BN does not have.
