Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has denied reports which alleged it forbade students from celebrating Christmas on campus grounds.

Its vice-chancellor, Prof Dr Mohd Harun Abdullah, said the university had never prohibited staff or students from organising any festive activity, including Christmas celebration, in the campus.

Describing it as a misunderstanding, he said the proposed Christmas celebration was approved much earlier, adding that UMS had also provided a budget for it to be organised,” he said in a statement in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.

He said UMS had also supported the students’ idea of having it on a big scale and getting the local community to join in the celebration.

UMS had also given a choice for the celebration to be held either in-campus or off-campus, considering the expected crowd, traffic and parking problems.
