Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar today accused Pakatan Rakyat of being responsible for the deaths of dengue victims when the coalition bickered internally, amid the dengue outbreak in the state.
"While they were quarrelling over who should be menteri besar, dengue cases in Selangor increased by almost 100 percent.
"They did not care about the rakyat and around 32 people died because of dengue," he told delegates at the Selangor PPP convention in Ampang this afternoon.
Noh said BN was not willing to see the rakyat continue dying of dengue and had stepped in, while Pakatan continued to fight among themselves.
"BN had formed a cabinet committee on dengue which was chaired by the prime minister.
"Are we to see the rakyat continuing dying of dengue? Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin went to the ground to lead a war against dengue in Selangor.
"None of the state representatives were present," he said.
Noh also boasted that he was better than newly-minted Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali when going to the ground and reaching out to the rakyat.
“For example when there was a landslide in Hulu Selangor, I arrived at 10am and I was told the menteri besar will arrive at 12pm.
“I asked what for? And I was told he may give a RM300 contribution to all the families there, so as the Umno chairperson I gave RM500 to each family.
“I even waited for him until 2pm but couldn’t even see his shadow. It was supposedly a lunch with the rakyat but I was the one having lunch with them,” he said.
‘Azmin lost to Noh 2-0'
Likewise, Noh said he had also gone down to the ground when there was a freak storm ahead of Azmin despite the menteri besar slamming him for trying to be a “hero and was an hour late.
“He said so to cover up his own weaknesses but the fact is that he has lost to Noh Omar 2-0.
“I dare say in terms of taking action, I am faster than the menteri besar,” he said.
Noh also chastised Azmin for proposing a dialogue between the Selangor mufti and Sisters in Islam (SIS) over a fatwa declaring the organisation “deviant”.
“How can there be a dialogue if SIS has taken the case to court, that is why the mufti refused to talk as it could be sub judice.
“How can he be menteri besar if he can’t even handle something simple like this?” he said.
During his speech, Noh also repeatedly emphasised that BN was now the opposition and must therefore act like one.
He added that any funding from BN should go to programmes that reach out directly to the rakyat and any infrastructure funding should be left to the state government.
