‘Pakatan, not BN forsook us first on Kidex’

An NGO opposed to the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway has lashed out at Pakatan Rakyat representatives for not making clear whether they are for or against the project.
An NGO opposed to the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) has lashed out at Pakatan Rakyat representatives for not making clear whether they are for or against the project.
Say No to Kidex (SNTK) vice chairperson SP Selve (below) added that it was the Pakatan-led Selangor government, not the BN, which first paved the way for the project.
"Please don’t push the blame to BN. The Pakatan (state) government in Selangor gave the approval in Feb 2012 and then published a Land Acquisition Gazette in June 2013.
"The BN (federal) government only signed the concession agreement in Nov 2013.
"You sold us out to BN first by signing the order to acquire our homes, so don’t go saying that it is a federal government project, that (is why) you cannot stop Kidex Skyway," he said in a statement today.
Selve was responding to several Pakatan state assemblypersons who have criticised Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Wahid Omar and Works Minister Fadillah Yusof for "cherry picking" the positive impact of Kidex and ignoring the negatives.
Painting a pretty picture
The state assemblypersons are R Rajiv (Bukit Gasing), Yeo Bee Yin (Damansara Utama), Lau Weng San (Kampung Tunku) and Ng Sze Han (Kinrara).
In a joint statement yesterday, they blasted Abdul Wahid for stating that Kidex will reduce traffic at Damansara by 16 percent, Jalan Utara near St Paul’s Church by 21 percent, Jalan Semangat by 18 percent and Jalan Templer by 21 percent.
They said the written reply to Petaling Jaya MP Tony Pua conveniently omitted that Kidex will also push up traffic by 19 percent at a portion of Jalan Utara near Armada Hotel and by 11 percent at the Bukit Jalil Highway.
However, Selve said despite their vocal criticism, Pakatan representatives have not given a clear "yes" or "no" to the project.
Furthermore, he said that ousted former Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim is not the sole person to be blamed for the Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) granting initial approval for the project which was first proposed by Putrajaya in 2011.
He said several exco members were also part of the council and are therefore equally responsible.
Selve said a request for the full list of the meeting’s attendees was never released despite a request under the Freedom of Information Enactment 2012.
"Two years down the road since the approval was given, the Selangor government still says 'Kidex can go ahead if they meet all conditions'," he said in reference to newly-minted Menteri Besar Azmin Ali's statement.
Selve warned that if the Kidex highway is constructed, voters will not forgive Pakatan and as a result the coalition will lose support in Selangor.
