The result of the doping test done on the world’s No 1 badminton player Lee Chong Wei will be revealed in a week, says National Sports Institute’s chief executive officer Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz.

“The results can be obtained in a short period of time but its announcement depends on the Badminton World Federation (BWF).”

Lee underwent his second ‘B’ sample testing at a hospital in Norway yesterday, which is being tested by two scientists from the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Ramlan said Lee faces suspension and punishment if he fails in the test of his second ‘B’ sample.

“If the results are positive, there is a punishment awaiting Chong Wei and he will be suspended for the time being,” Ramlan is quoted as saying in a Harian Metro report today.

Meanwhile, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) general manager Kenny Goh, who was also present with Lee in Norway, said they were prepared for anything, from a legal aspect as well.

Lee was named in The Star as the “top athlete” to have failed a drug test at the World Badminton Championships held in Denmark last October.

BAM confirmed that the substance found in the first test was dexamethasone, a type of steroid that has anti-inflammatory effects.
