Ragnarok for good values, growth
While I agree with the notion that there should be a distinction between gaming cybercafes and 'Internet and email only' cybercafes (consumers ought to have that choice), Loceng Cat's singling out of Raganarok is most unfair and entirely inaccurate.
S/he claims that Ragnarok will eventually lead to a 'nation full of anti-social, anti-God, and anti-establishment youth.' As a regular player, I can attest that the game, in fact, espouses the very virtues which Loceng Cat implies it will destroy.
It is not 'anti-social' - teaming up with others and joining parties and guilds is a central part of the game. All players are well-attuned to the advantages of compassion and generosity for in times of need, newer players turn to those more experienced for healing, items and advice.
The loyalty and respect formed among party members is astonishing, and individuals learn to appreciate others' strengths and admit their own weaknesses. The ties are comparable to any formed within a sports team.
It is not 'anti-God'. In fact, the game narrative explicitly makes clear that devotion to God is vital to one's character development, particularly if one plays as an Acolyte or Crusader. The building up of one's character in order to more effectively rid the land of evil gives one the sense of immense fulfilment and satisfaction.
And lastly, it is not 'anti-establishment'. The principles of civic responsibility and good discipline are evidenced, for example, by the fact that all characters are required to carry out certain tasks and duties in order to be initiated into their desired profession, set by government-sanctioned experts in those fields (e.g. the Head Priest at Prontera).
Finally, the entire game is set in the well-governed and peace-loving Rune-Midgard Kingdom, which, like Malaysia, is a federative constitutional monarchy.
I strongly suggest Loceng Cat giving Ragnarok a try.
