An Umno Youth exco says official party events should all serve halal food only.
An Umno Youth leader has poked fun at DAP’s claim to being open to all races by pointing out that it does not serve purely halal food at its function, but that Muslims need to request it.
“Halal food upon request? The food should be halal by default at an official party event.
"DAP (a) party for all? Hilarious,” Umno Youth executive council member Ibdillah Ishak wrote on Twitter yesterday.
"DAP (a) party for all? Hilarious,” Umno Youth executive council member Ibdillah Ishak wrote on Twitter yesterday.
Ibdillah, who is also social media bureau chairperson for Umno Youthm was referring to a post by DAP publicity chief Tony Pua (left) promoting a Petaling Jaya DAP fund-raising dinner.
In his posting, Pua, who is also Petaling Jaya Utara MP, said halal or vegetarian meals are “available upon request”.
Tickets for the Nov 3 event, featuring DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, costs RM70 per person.
Umno has traditionally attacked DAP for being a "Chinese" party, although the opposition party's membership accepts all races but is predominantly non-Malay, with a Chinese majority.
However, the DAP has been trying to break this stereotype recently by giving prominence to its Malay recruits, such as former Teluk Intan candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud and social activist Young Syefura Othman.
