DAP's Seremban MP Anthony Loke Siew Fook today denied giving "approval" for a charity concert to be held in a Chinese vernacular school in Nilai that was being sponsored by beer makers Tiger.
 
Loke told Malaysiakini that accusations hurled against him that he had "allowed" SJKC Kuo Min, Nilai's use of Tiger as sponsors for the concert was completely "illogical" as he could not even enter the school because he was an opposition MP.
 
The allegation first surfaced in the anti-DAP Facebook page "Boikot Barangan DAP Cina".
 
According to the page, disgruntled residents had met with the school headmaster and were told that Loke had approved the event. It also alleged that the headmaster had replied "arrogantly" to the concerns raised.
 
However, Loke said no such meeting even took place and no formal complaint was put forward to the school.
 
"No one came to complain, the whole allegation, they were just making up a story. This is yet another attempt to stir disharmony and pitch the Malays against the Chinese," he said.
 
Loke also questioned why the page was raising an issue about the charity concert now when such concerts have taken place in Chinese vernacular schools for "over 20 years".
 
"Chinese schools regularly depend on fundraising to do their activities, and it happens that over the past 20 years, Carlsberg and Tiger have consistently come forward to sponsor these concerts," he said.
 
The story from the Facebook page, with a photo of the school and the billboard promoting the concert with Tiger's logo on it, had been shared over 360 times at the time of writing.
 
Loke said that he had requested the Nilai state assemblyperson Arul Kumar Jambunathan to lodge a police report against the page for spreading false news, and the report would be lodged tomorrow.
 
He said that he had also spoken to the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the school and it is now up the school to take any further action against the claims made in the Facebook page.
