Five homes in Johor Baru and Kulaijaya were slightly damaged after molotov cocktails were thrown into them two days ago.

Johor deputy police chief Ismail Yatim said the incidents occurred between 12am and 4am.

“The incidents involved houses in Johor Baharu Selatan, Nusajaya and Kulaijaya, believed to be committed by Alongs to scare the borrowers who are said to have failed to pay their loans,” he told reporters after the monthly gathering of the Johor contingent police headquarters in Johor Baru today.

However, he said none of the victims were injured in the incidents.

He said the cases were being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage.

“We want to warn moneylenders that stern action will be taken if they use methods which break the law,” he said, adding that the public were also advised not to borrow money from Alongs to avoid such incidents.
