PAS today suspended two of its state assemblypersons for unilaterally supporting PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the Selangor menteri besar post during the height of the crisis.

PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali announced that Saari Sungib (Hulu Kelang) and Hasnol Baharuddin (Morib) were suspended from the party for one year effective today.

"However, they can present a written appeal to the syura council secretary within 15 days from today," he told a press conference at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

The duo had signed a statutory declaration in support of Wan Azizah at the height of the Selangor menteri besar crisis, before PAS made an official decision on Aug 17.
 
Mustafa (right) said the decision was made after he presented a report to the central committee today.
 
The report was made following Saari and Hasnol's meeting with Mustafa on Sept 29 to explain their actions.
 
The duo had said they were merely trying to defend the Pakatan state government amid wavering within PAS to join forces with arch-rival and opposition Umno, to form a new government.
 
"This means that the two members cannot represent the party in events. However, their status as state assemblypersons are not affected, they are still PAS state assemblypersons as they are not sacked from the party," said Mustafa.
 
When contacted, Saari told the media he had yet to receive any formal letter on the decision.

"I cannot make any comments yet because I have yet to receive any information, I only know of it through WhatsApp," he said.
 
Meanwhile, Hasnol said he had expected the decision.
 
"I need to think this out first (to appeal or not), so I will wait for the letter first," he said.
