Only 150 people may have showed up in Kuala Lumpur today to protest against the recent hike in fuel prices, but organisers have vowed to press on.

“We will gather again next week and will continue until the price is reduced,” said rally leader Mohd Azan Safar from Gerakan Turun Kos Sara Hidup (Turun).

The rally was attended by supporters from Turun, Gabungan Mahasiswa Islam Se Malaysia (Gamis), and PAS Youth.

Mohd Azan said they may use other ways to mount the protest, apart from rallies and marches, until the price of RON 95 is reduced by 20 sen.

On Oct 2, the government announced an increase in the price of RON 95 petrol and diesel by 20 sen at midnight.

The protesters gathered in front of Pertama Complex in the popular shopping area of Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and marched to the Sogo departmental store, carrying banners and placards, and continued walking along Jalan Raja Laut and Jalan Semarang.

The protesters carried banners and as they marched, chanted for change – for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and for the Barisan Nasional Government to step down, before dispersing at 4pm.

Also present were PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat, popular comedian Leman Raja Lawak, and PKR Youth's Rozan Asen Mat Rasip.

Suhaizan told reporters that this protest is a continuation to the memorandum sent to the parliament last week to seek for the reduction in petrol prices.

On Oct 8, a peaceful protest was held where a memorandum was delivered to BN and Pakatan Rakyat lawmakers.
