Read widely, be well-informed
I agree with Jamil Spatfore Abdullah call that with the Internet, Malaysians should read news from many different sources besides only Western sources like the New York Times, CNN, Fox News, BBC, etc.
It's bad enough that Malaysian newspapers get their news from syndicated wire sources based mainly in the West and then regurgitate the same material and viewpoints in their pages for local consumption.
Unfortunately, this is also true of English-language newspapers in Singapore, Thailand and other Asian countries.
Even reading mainstream online newspapers from around the world results in one getting many different perspectives on issues. Even though each one may have its different bias on an issue, taken together, they all help one intelligently arrive at one's independent conclusion.
With the war in Afghanistan and later Iraq, I now prefer reading the online Indian newspapers which tend to break the news faster than others and which give their own independent opinions.
Thanks to Google, I found a site with links to thousands of online newspapers around the world.
Go check it out and be well-informed.
