PAS Hulu Klang assemblyperson Saari Sungib said today he is being villified by his party colleagues on a daily basis, ever since the PAS muktamar.

Saari has been called all sorts of names, from traitor to munafik (hypocrite), after PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang openly termed him and Morib assemblyperson Hasnul Baharuddin "lackeys" (barua) at the party convention last month.

"Every day (I) receive (abusive messages) in the form of WhatsApp and SMS messages," he said, adding that his colleagues even forward him group discussions vilifying him.

"I am used to it," Saari said when met at the Gombak district office, where Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali was having a walkabout.

"That is slander. They called me traitor and hypocrite," he said.

Saari and Hasnul (left in photo) were turned into dart boards by PAS  conservatives after they signed statutory declarations in support of PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the new menteri besar after Abdul Khalid Ibrahim's expulsion from his party.

At the time, during the height of the Selangor MB crisis, the PAS leadership instructed its Selangor assemblypersons not to support Wan Azizah's nomination, resulting in a prolonged and ugly impasse over Khalid's replacement.

Saari said this was different from his previous experience, where the Umno-BN government had harassed him through the Internal Security Act, interrogations and false news since the reformasi era.

'That was the work of an opponent'

“That was the work of an opponent, from Umno, BN and other political rivals. But, now, I experienced it from my friends in the party.

“Never mind, if they (feel they) are right, then they are right. But I still stand firm on my position,” he said when asked if he was saddened by the attack from friends.

Saari said PAS assembypersons should have rejected and stood firm against the former menteri besar Khalid when he was sacked from his party.

However, he said, the slander that he received has lessened as his colleagues began to see sense and reason in both of them supporting the PKR president for MB.

Saari, who has given his explanation to the party, is still awaiting the outcome of the party’s disciplinary action.

He said he is ready to meet Hadi (above) if the latter wants to see him.
