The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) has urged employers to provide subsidised meals in their company canteens as well as free transportation to help their workers counter the cost of living expenses.

Its president, Khalid Atan (left) said workers, particularly those in the lower income group, were finding it difficult to make ends meet in view of the rising cost of living.

He also urged the government to make it compulsory for private sector companies to provide a RM300 per month cost of living allowance for employees with immediate effect.

Khalid hoped the government would take into consideration the situation of 10 million private sector workers when the 2015 Budget was presented this Oct 10.
