Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong has asked all Malaysians to stop creating "imaginary enemies" resulting in an "us versus them" mentality.

He was referring to a recent video posted by Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) rallying Malays to support its president Abdullah Zaik as the latter's sedition trial looms closer.

"We must stop making imaginary enemies and threats that were never there and unite as true Malaysians," Mah (right) said in a statement yesterday.

He said that Malaysians must not rely on "untenable self-legitimisation at the expense of national unity" as was the case with Isma.

"Stop imprisoning ourselves to the inferior idea of us versus them," he said.

Yesterday, Gerakan vice-president Asharuddin Ahmad also condemned the Isma video, saying that the NGO must respect due process of the law first.

"It is time we make a bold effort to overcome our own fears, doubts and lack of self-worth," he asserted.
