Activist lodges report over threat by 'PAS man'

Activist Safwan Anang today lodged a police report claiming that he was threatened with violence by a man, allegedly from PAS, over his criticism of the party.

The man, who claimed to be a PAS leader, allegedly threatened to "beat up" Safwan if a memorandum over the Selangor menteri besar crisis to PAS.
Instead, the man said the activist, through the NGO Lensa Anak Muda Malaysia (Lensa) should send memoranda to DAP and PKR as well over the matter.
The "threat" was alleged to have been made via a telephone call at 8am yesterday, before Lensa handed over a memorandum to PAS at the party’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
According to a recording of the conversation, circulated via instant messenger application WhatsApp, the man who said he was a PAS staffer, accused Safwan of being "insolent" (biadap).
He also said that he would resort to physical violence if he saw Safwan at the PAS headquarters yesterday.
'I'll hunt you down'
In the police report lodged at Dang Wangi police station, Safwan said the man also said that he knew where Safwan’s family lives, and that he would "hunt (Safwan) down" if he is ignored.
Safwan said the man called him again after the memorandum was handed over, and sought to meet privately opposite the PAS headquarters.
He claimed the man, who was flanked by five others, repeated the threats when he met Safwan later.
When contacted, Safwan said that he was "disappointed" over the matter.
"It is a shame that people have to do stuff like this (threaten) because at the end of the day it only gives the party (PAS) a bad image."
Malaysiakini’s has attempted contacted the man who alleged to have threatened Safwan.
The portal is withholding the man's identity pending his response.
