The Hong Kong police should learn from their Malaysian counterparts regarding the firing of tear gas at demonstrators, quips a PKR assemblyperson.

Chang Lih Kang was referring to news reports that Hong Kong police had only used 87 tear-gas canisters against pro-democracy protesters there.

The Teja assemblyperson pointed out that Malaysian police fired 967 tear gas canisters to disperse a crowd of almost 200,000 during the Bersih 3.0 protest in 2012.

"What?! HK police only shot 87 tear gas canisters?

"Shame on you! M'sian police shot 967 during Bersih rally! Learn!" reads Chang's sarcastic tweet.

Meanwhile, reports from Britain have emerged that the British company that sold tear gas to Hong Kong is reviewing its sales policy after the tear gas was used against unarmed protesters during the weekend.

The Guardian reports that the Hampshire-based Chemring will review its sales policy following the weekend incident.

“Chemring, based in Romsey, Hampshire, has sold the crowd-control weapon to the former British colony for several years under export licences approved by the British government,” it reported.

“It said it could not comment on what its future policies may be as a result of the situation in Hong Kong but it would clearly review them,” it quoted the company as saying.

The company had also supplied tear gas to Egypt before in 1998, but had stopped exporting the product to Egypt since then.
