My worse fear has finally been confirmed. One trainee was allegedly raped by the trainer. I was not surprised that it happened given the poor planning of the National Service programme.

I was surprised that the incident was revealed so late. But again, this is not a surprise as our deputy prime minister is jealously protecting the programme by hook or by crook.

The National Service council has many unanswered questions in the way it is handling the whole situation.

As the parent of my daughter, how can I knowingly put my child in danger? Will someone out there advice me what should I do? Imagine the trauma of the parents of the trainee who was allegedly raped by the trainer. What can they do?

Even an apology from the government will not be enough as the future of their daughter is now destroyed. Who will come to their aid? Those in authority can punish the trainer, if he is found guilty, but it is too late. The damage has been done.

For every negative case reported on the NS, there must be many more unreported cases knowing that the NS council is trying to protect the programme and will try to sweep all problems under the carpet, hopefully without anybody knowing.

The NS programme cost RM500 million. Ten percent of this will go into someone's pocket. For the sake of a greedy few, the innocent rakyat has to suffer in silence.

I just pray and hope that our PM has the courage to correct a wrong, even if the wrong was done by his deputy. Do what is right in the name of God.
