One of the MCA flag designers, Kean Chai Seng, 90, passed away on Thursday evening at an old folk’s home in Bayan Baru, near George Town.

MCA president Liow Tiong Lai said Kean was one of the flag designers and a veteran party member who had fought and sacrificed for the party.

“Kean together with the late Mok Yuen, had designed the party flag and was a party member for more than 65 years,” he said after paying his last respects to the late Kean together with other state MCA leaders at the Batu Gantong funeral parlour in George Town yesterday.

Earlier, Liow and MCA vice-president Chew Mei Fun had draped Kean’s coffin with a party flag as a mark of respect.

Liow said the placing of the party flag on the coffin was an apt tribute to a man who had contributed immensely to the party.

One of Kean’s close friends, Mok Shau Pin, 57, said he was informed by a friend that Kean had died of old age at an old folk’s home in Bayan Baru around 6.20pm on Thursday.

He said Kean was a well-respected veteran member of the party and had always sacrificed for the sake of MCA.

“We will sorely miss him as a true leader in the party despite not holding any major party position,” he said.

Shau Ping is the son of the late Mok Yuen, who passed away in 2010 at Penang Hospital due to a stroke.

Kean, who had separated from his wife, leaves behind three children who are currently living overseas and his body will be cremated at the Mount Erskine crematorium on Monday.
