PAS yet to get letter on taking down billlboards

P KUBOR PAS said it would remove its billboards on oil royalties only if they receive specific instructions from the Election Commission (EC) to do so.
PAS Pengkalan Kubor by-election campaign director Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the party has yet to receive the letter, after the EC said it had sent a second letter after the first was wrongly addressed.
“We have yet to receive any letter. As of the meeting just now there is still nothing We are prepared to cooperate by taking down the billboard, but only give specific instructions on which billboard needs to be taken down.
“We also ask the EC to issue letters to BN to take down their malicious billboards,” he said when contacted by Malaysiakini today.
Both BN and PAS are in midst of a ‘billboard war’ over the oil royalty issue in Pengkalan Kubor, which will go to the polls tomorrow.
Yesterday, Pengkalan Kubor by-election returning officer Mohd Sobri Ramli admitted that the EC had mistakenly sent the letters regarding PAS’ billboards on the oil royalty issue to the Kelantan Information Department, which is a federal government department.
The letter was intended for the Kelantan State Information Secretariat, which is under the PAS-led state government.
Earlier this morning, EC chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said the commission has already sent new instructions to PAS.
He said the EC has also met representatives from PAS and BN to ask them to take down the related banners.
“Yesterday there was a slight mistake. New letters have just been issued. We have sent them.
“There are banners that slander and create animosity, among others. All parties are doing it. However when the EC told them to take it down, they agreed, so there are no problems,” he said.
The posters and banners on the royalty issue and PAS’ internal party problems have been placed along the roads in Pengkalan Kubor since Saturday.
Some posters raised the issue of ‘goodwill money’, the speeches of PAS leaders Haron Din, Husam Musa and Abdul Hadi Awang, and administrative issues in Kelantan.
Meanwhile, billboards by the Kelantan State Information Secretariat read, ‘Same royalty agreement, closer distance, but no royalty’.
The billboard includes a map showing the distances between the natural gas landing sits in Songkla, Thailand and Kota Baru, along with the words, ‘Royalty: Kelantan continues to be oppressed’.
