The Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4) called on new Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali today to be transparent on how he will spend the state's RM3 billion in reserves.

The reserves, accumulated during Abdul Khalid Ibrahim's (right) six-year tenure as menteri besar that ended yesterday, are alleged to be a key reason why PKR wanted its member as the next menteri besar.

"There have been much concern and worry about whether the change in menteri besar was about breaking the RM3 billion save in the Selangor coffers during the tenure of Khalid Ibrahim," the statement said.

"The usage of these funds must be carried out in the most transparent manner to ensure there is no abuse and mismanagement," C4 said in a statement today.

Among its list of suggestions, C4 called on Azmin to bring back local council elections to Selangor.

The NGO also warned that Azmin cannot afford a "honeymoon" period, and that he must “hit the ground, running”.

It added: "Azmin Ali must show what he can do better than the previous menteri besar and put urgent plans forward to win back the hearts of the people of Selangor with competent, credible and clean administrative policies,"

C4 said Azmin carried an "unflattering reputation" of still practising Umno-style politics and as such, he must "reverse" this perception as the new menteri besar.

"Furthermore, abounding and unresolved allegations of wrongdoing against him must be responded to urgently, to dispel any doubt that can tarnish his name," it said.
