Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the latest to blame the internal strife in PAS on his former heir apparent turned nemesis, Anwar Ibrahim.

"This (problem) is the result of their cooperation with Anwar, anyone who works with him will face problems because he likes to divide," he told reporters in Putrajaya today.

The former premier was commenting on the crisis within the second largest Malay party in the country which was obvious during the 60th PAS muktamar in Johor recently.

"He can split his own supporters, you can see he has a history like that.

"When he joined Umno, he brought problems, he formed Pakatan (Rakyat), he created problems," he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

In view of this, Mahathir said the episode should serve as a lesson for PAS.

Prior to this, various Umno leaders also blamed Anwar for the imbroglio in PAS, with some even likening him to a "virus".

Among his critics, minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan said Anwar left a "trail of destruction" from Umno to PAS.

PAS has been split over the Selangor menteri besar crisis, which has also threatened to break up the Pakatan coalition.
