The DAP has hit out at a Penang PAS leader's remarks at the party's muktamar which strongly criticised the Penang government for favouring developers while ignoring the plight of development’s victims.

DAP Bukit Bendera Youth chief Haris Zuan Jaharudin said Iszuree may be try to win  popularity with his party at the gathering but warned him against betraying his Pakatan Rakyat friends by not speaking the truth or else be deemed "a wolf in sheep's clothing" (musuh dalam selimut).

Haris Zuan (right) said Iszuree's criticism was "baseless, and ignorant of the fact that it was Umno which had oppressed the rakyat all this while".

The Penang Municipal Councillor expressed shock and regretted Iszuree's remarks uttered during the PAS muktamar in Batu Pahat, Johor, yesterday.

Iszuree had then accused the Penang government of failing to implement a pro-people housing policy when addressing the state's housing problems.

"Instead the state government is pro-developer as practised by BN," Iszuree had said.

"Iszuree is a Penang municipal councillor - a local government policy maker in the state. His speech is very worrying as his allegations are baseless and he has dismissed the state's efforts in the matter," Haris Zuan said.

He then pointed out that Penang leads in starting a RM500 million housing fund to construct 20,000 units of houses under the Penang Development Corporation.

"This is a big amount and Iszuree should realise that unlike other states, the Penang does not receive any allocation from the federal government to build public housing or affordable homes," he added.

"In fact the federal government had only built 70 units of public housing for the poor, the lowest number in the country," he stressed.

Haris Zuan reminded Iszuree about state government measures to address housing woes, including restricting the purchase of affordable homes costing RM400,000 and below only to those approved by the state government.

He chided Iszuree for ignoring the plight of 19 villages in Tasek Gelugor which will soon "disappear" when the Royal Malaysian Air Force base is shifted to another location as the land has been sold for development.

The said land in Butterworth is under federal government jurisdiction.

"What about the actions of two Umno leaders who became brokers and reaped a RM5 million profit in three months after selling 10 acres of land affecting 31 Malay land owners in Kampung Teramg, Balik Pulau?" he asked.

"Why hasn't Iszuree mentioned the number of times those who face court action were assisted by the state government?"

"Instead he mentions the development project in Batu Uban. Who is behind it? Is Iszuree suggesting that we violated the earlier agreement inked between the parties involved?" he queried.

Haris Zuan said he tried to understand Iszuree's concerns and fully supports his proposal to organise a special briefing session by Malay culture and heritage experts so that the state can come up with a more inclusive policy to protect the community's heritage.

"It is unfortunate that even before the session can take place, Iszuree has already slandered the state government."
