No decision on GST on petrol, says customs DG

The government is yet to decide whether the goods and services tax (GST) will be imposed on petroleum, Royal Malaysian Customs Department Director-General Khazali Ahmad said today.

He said this in a statement to clarify a recent news report which appeared in an English daily headlined "Petrol Won't Be Exempted From GST".
The Sept 12 report quoted the department's Senior Assistant Director Ishak Daud as saying that petrol would not be exempted from GST, when it introduced on April 1, 2015.
The government will implement the GST at a fixed rate of six per cent to replace the present Sales and Services Tax at 16 per cent.
