The fissure within PAS widens with Federal Territories PAS joining Terengganu PAS in banning its members from joining PAS-linked NGO Perpaduan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia (PasMa).

In issuing a “stern” warning, Federal Territories PAS secretary Khairul Anuar Abdul Manap stipulated that the banned activities include being “a member, founding the NGO, attending PasMa events or assisting in any PasMa programmes of any sort.”

“If any Federal Territories PAS members are found doing so, they will be considered traitors to PAS,” he said in a statement.

A similar statement was issued by Terengganu PAS on Sunday.

The statement comes after PAS vice-president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said that the Islamic party members are not allowed to join PasMa.

However, Tuan Ibrahim later said his statement was taken out of context.

Not PasMa’s stand

PasMa is headed by former Kedah executive council member Phahrolrazi Zawawi (right) with members such as PAS central committee member Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

Phahrolrazi conceded yesterday there are some among PasMa members who want party president Abdul Hadi Awang to step down, but this is not the NGO’s stand.

The calls for Hadi’s resignation made at a PasMa meeting in Kota Bharu has riled up some in the conservative ulama faction of PAS, including central committee member Nasrudin Hassan, a known Hadi loyalist.

According to Nasrudin, Johor PAS Youth leader Sheikh Umar Ali had urged PAS central committee, which is at odds with Hadi, to oust the president at the party muktamar to held in Johor this week, beginning tomorrow.

Hadi has been criticised for ignoring the central committee’s decision regarding the candidates for Selangor menteri besar.
