Man pleads not guilty to trespassing into assembly

A businessman, who is a former Kampung Rawana Umno Youth head, claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court in George Town today to a charge of trespassing into the Penang state legislative assembly on May 21.
The accused, Wan Norazman Ariffin, 41, was charged with trespassing.
A businessman, who is a former Kampung Rawana Umno Youth head, claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court in George Town today to a charge of trespassing into the Penang state legislative assembly on May 21.
The accused, Wan Norazman Ariffin, 41, was charged with trespassing into the building with the intention of intimidating Penang state legislative assembly secretary Maheswari a/p Malayandy at 1.30pm on May 21.
He was charged under Section 448 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code and faces a maximum sentence of three years jail or a fine of RM5,000 or both, if convicted.
Magistrate L Umma Devi set Sept 29 for mention and the accused was released on RM2,000 bail in one surety.
During the proceedings, deputy public prosecutor Siti Fatimah Talib told the court that the accused was a new arrest in the trespassing case.
As such she requested for the hearing of the accused to be conducted together with 15 other individuals who were charged on June 19 on the same charge at the Traffic Court on Sept 29.
The accused was represented by three counsel headed by Rosli Ismail.
The fifteen accused of the same charge earlier were Mohd Ridzwan Bakar,54, Hisham Ahmad Sabri, 43, Afriz Mohd Noor, 36, Rosesarwandi Saad @ Yaacob, 33, Mohd Rizuad Mohd Azudin, 37, Hisham Abdul Hamid, 38, Mohd Nashrol Hisham Abdullah, 38, Azmeal Abu Bakar, 42, Mohamad Yusmadi Mohad Yusof, 34, Mohd Hilmie Ibrahim, 37, Jasmin Noordin, 40, Nordin Wahab, 41, Mohamed Ghani Abd Jiman,48, Wan Abidin Zain,51 and Mohamed Ibrahim A Siahoo, 31.
