I refer to Second Class Citizen's well-written letter and as a Chinese Malaysian echo its sentiments. However, the end of the letter sounded very optimistic that Pak Lah under the BN will be able to change a deeply ingrained culture of racial politics.

It is naive to think that this would happen under the BN coalition formula. This formula of racial component parties under one national front with Umno as the main leader has been set up to forever racially divide the country.

The three main component parties, Umno, MCA and MIC are in a constant tug of war and they employ a pull-push strategy. Whenever Umno is weak, they pull to obtain maximum results, when Umno is strong they get pulled. It is a constant balance of power.

As long as Umno is strong, BlueRider's ideology of 'Ketuanan Melayu' will always be imposed. The other races are reminded of their 'social contract' as it is often fondly called. A contract which you have ever seen or signed but by virtue of your ancestors stepping onto these shores, you are bound for generations.

BN's policy for a united Malaysia is to divide and rule. As long as there is this pull-push factor BN will always be able to capitalise on it and win each time. The favourite phrase is 'Remember May 13.'

If the young post-independence generation looks forward to 'true unity and living together as one community,' it will not even begin to happen in the next five years. It will not happen as long as the BN's formula for unity is the policy of the day.
