The Federal Territory PAS women's wing or muslimat has defended their party president Abdul Hadi Awang and launched a broadside on his PKR counterpart Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The wing's deputy head Rosni Adam recalled how Wan Azizah allegedly could not handle the pressure of being opposition leader after the 2008 general election.

"Under Hadi, PAS gave Wan Azizah the opportunity to hold the opposition leader post. There was no gender issue then.

"Unfortunately, she could not take it and resigned after only six months

"The people have lost trust and cannot see the seriousness of her being a leader who carries out the trust of the voters who voted her six months earlier (as Kajang assemblyperson)," she added.

Previously, Hadi had also questioned Wan Azizah's capabilities in becoming the next Selangor menteri besar.

Respect PAS leaders

The Muslimat wing said PKR and DAP Wanita wings should respect PAS leaders as "PKR has never given PAS the chance to rebut the names they have proposed for the post."

"Hadi never said that he wants to break the coalition and his rejection of Wan Azizah was in the best interests of the people," she said.

Referring to today's palace statement which lambasted DAP and PKR for defying the sultan's orders to send in three names, Rosni said it is better for the two parties to concentrate on that issue.

"It is best that Wanita DAP handle the problem wisely so as not to continue tainting Pakatan's name as a group which is defiant (derhaka) against the rulers," she added.

Rosni (above) was responding to DAP leader Chong Eng's statement which stated that Hadi had failed to see Wan Azizah's "perseverance" in leading the reformasi movement after her husband, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim was jailed.

"She has integrity and no record of corruption.

"She is both strong and gentle which offer an alternative to mainstream," said Chong Eng.

She also said that Hadi's rejection of Wan Azizah is also a rejection of the judgement of 30 Selangor assemblypersons who pledged support for her to take over from incumbent menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
