PAS vice-president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said party members are not allowed to join the NGO Persatuan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia (PasMa).

In order to do so, he added, they should quit PAS.

In a serious tone, Tuan Man said there is no reason to join PasMa even if it is a NGO and not a political party.

"They can't join because they are members of PAS, unless they leave the party. As far as I know, PasMa is a welfare NGO.

"There is no need to join (PasMa) since there are many welfare initiatives in PAS, they can be active there," he told reporters.

PasMa started to attract attention following speculation over the past few days that a group from PAS is planning to form a new party.

Reports have also claimed that PKR and DAP are intending to convert the NGO into a political party.

Meanwhile, Tuan Ibrahim said while PasMa is not important, the NGO, however, was capable of garnering support in the new media era.

"Given that we are in the era of open and new media, this (PasMa) will spread quickly," he added.

Tuan Man was also questioned on his speech at the central committee meeting earlier where he had warned against spreading the "voices of foes in the party".

However, he declined to reveal who were these so-called foes.

"We have to be cautious about spreading the views of foes in the party as it will give rise to polemics.

"So all news must be censored and scrutinised before being spread to prevent disharmony in the party,” he added.

There has been talk that there are attempts by certain quarters to get PAS out of Pakatan Rakyat in order to form an unity government with Umno.
