Only two entry points by air for haj pilgrims

For this year’s haj, the Saudi Arabia government has only designated two entry points by air for the pilgrims, that is the Prince Mohammed bin Abddulaziz International Airport in Madinah and King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.

Arab News in its online news portal www.arabnews.com reported today that Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authorities had notified the Haj Ministry that only these two entry points had been designated to receive pilgrims by air.
The paper quoted Khalid Al-Khaibary from the Saudi Civil Aviation authority.
Arab News said in the past many private tour operators from South Asian countries had sent individual pilgrims through the King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.
It also said that more than 101,000 pilgrims had arrived in the kingdom by Thursday from different parts of the world, with the biggest group of 26,000 pilgrims from India, based on statistics from the Saudi Haj Ministry.
Arab News in its earlier report stated that according to the Saudi Haj Ministry, more than 1.3 million foreign pilgrims were expected to perform the haj this year, with South Asian countries recorded the largest contingent with 410,000 pilgrims, followed by Arab countries with 250,000.
About 228,000 pilgrims are from South-East Asian countries, including Indonesia and Malaysia, while Turkey and European countries will send 190,000, non-Arab African countries 170,000 and Iran 63,000.
Another 150,000 domestic pilgrims, including expatriates, would perform the haj this year, it said.
Meanwhile, today, three more Tabung Haji haj chartered flights arrived in Madinah with the first flight KT23 with 449 haj pilgrims arriving at the Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz International Airport at 5am local time (10am Malaysian time) from KL International Airport (KLIA).
The second flight KT24, with 450 pilgrims from KLIA, arrived in Madinah at 9am local time (1pm Malaysian time), while KT25 with 279 pilgrims is expected to depart Senai International Airport at 6.35pm Malaysian time and arrived in Madinah at 10.15pm local time (2.15am Sunday Malaysia time).
Currently a total of 8,459 Malaysian pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia, with 2,091 pilgrims in Makkah and others still in Madinah.
