Activist Safwan gets 10 months' jail for sedition

Axolotl: Former Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia (SMM) chairperson Muhammad Safwan Anang @ Talib, instead of being given a jail sentence, deserves to be awarded the Anugerah Wira Negara.
 
He is a heroic defender of freedom, justice and truth. Shame on you, PM Najib Abdul Razak, you are the one who deserves to be jailed.
 
My Opinion: If the government acts against the interest of the rakyat, they lose their legitimacy and moral authority. In such a case, someone must voice it out and let the rakyat decide whether the government has offended the higher law.
 
Such a voice cannot be considered illegal if the target concerned has turned into an illegal entity. Even if not, is there a possibility or imminent risk to the country as a whole (not the present government per se)? If not, why should there be sedition?
 
I think to prove sedition, the standard must be even higher than beyond reasonable doubt. Judges must be brave enough to go beyond mere positive law and apply morality and rule of law.
 
Whatsup: Many are missing from the sedition list - those from Perkasa, Isma, even the home minister, etc, where are they? How come this list only contains those who want a better Malaysia and not those bigots and racists who intentionally inflame the rakyat?
 
What4: It shows how desperate Umno is when they have lost their direction and see everybody as their enemies. They will get enough rope to hang themselves.
 
Zen: Well, you pay your price to be in the limelight. Ordinary Malays don’t think highly of you anyway.
 
We the rakyat are more focused and interested in advancing our lives in areas where we are lacking, like in education and business.
 
We don’t have time for troublemakers who burn their precious time creating chaos in this country.
 
Hank Marvin: Zen, not all ordinary Malays are like you. They work hard. They are also aware that the Malay leaders in power have let them down and most of them are corrupt anyway.
 
Safwan Anang sacrificed his freedom for these ordinary Malays.

Wife overwhelmed by Safwan's jail term

Chris Wong: For uttering so-called seditious remarks, Safwan Anang is put into jail. However, those cheating and defrauding the rakyat of money, they can keep appealing the verdict and there’s no need to go to jail.
 
Our wheels of justice turn only for the rich and connected.

Disgusted: Perkasa allegedly paid for the bail of their star bully Siti Fairrah Ashykin Kamaruddin, better known as Kiki. That’s what ‘ketuanan’ is all about.
 
Where is the justice? All these people who bully and torment the rakyat will be sent to burn in Hell when they meet their maker on Judgement Day.
 
Jesse: The student body should rise and support him, or are they now so cowed that nobody wants to anything or say anything? The government has certainly done its job of training robots and sycophants.
 
Onepen: God bless Safwan and his family - Mastura and their child. He was found guilty under a law that was enacted in 1948, 66 years ago.
 
The 1948-1960 Emergency began and ended. Najib has promised to replace this law with a better law. Until then, let us help people like this poor chap.
 
This is an example of ‘needs-based’ help and not ‘race-based’ help. Let’s chip in and help our fellow Malaysian, Remember he stood for us in the hour of need, like the blood donor in the TV advertisement.
