At least for the past five years in the history of Malaysia, we saw an all-Malaysian opposition.

The issues of the day were justice, rule of law and separation of powers. But today, after the 11th general election, Malaysia has regressed back to a majority Chinese-party opposition, namely the DAP.

The Malays appear to have forgotten the injustices of the late '90s and have returned to Umno. MCA and MIC will again return to the days of chasing after the carrot and bringing their communities into conformity according to Umno's wishes.

The Barisan Nasional's post-independence formula of race-based parties will ensure Malaysians continue to be divided according to race. Barisan Nasional's formula for governing Malaysia is to 'divide and rule.'

This is a sad day for many who had high hopes for a Malaysia for all Malaysians. For a progressive Malaysia where rule of law, separation of powers and accountability and transparency are returned and that all Malaysians are treated fairly and equally.

Keadilan had a manifesto that basically called on the building of a Malaysia for all Malaysians. Perhaps this is asking for Utopia and perhaps Malaysians are not ready. Malaysians apparently still prefer to think in terms of race and religion and allow these ideas to separate them.
