A man, believed to be a nephew of a dignitary’s wife, is facilitating police investigations into the alleged possession of a fake intelligence authority card from the Home Ministry.

The card, which the police later learnt was from a non-existent unit of the ministry, was in the possession of the 30-year-old hotel staff member.

On Aug 31, the man turned up at the Alor Gajah police headquarters at about 11pm, to have his statement recorded.

Malacca Criminal Investigation Department chief ACP Raja Shahrom Raja Abdullah said initial investigations revealed the ministry neither had a special intelligence unit nor issued an authority card from the unit.

He said the man, upon questioning, told the police he had obtained the fake intelligence authority card in April this year, from a 34-year-old ministry staff member.

“Nevertheless, our checks revealed there is no special intelligence unit in the Home Ministry.

“We have opened an investigation paper into the case and further action will be taken against the man, believed to be the nephew of a dignitary’s wife, if he was found guilty of an offence.

“We are also in the midst of tracking down the whereabouts of the ministry staff member who had provided the authority card,” he told reporters when met in Malacca yesterday.

Raja Shahrom urged the public to contact the police if they had come across anyone claiming to be part of the non-existent intelligence unit for further action.
