MCA has called on the police to arrest and take action against those who hurled a Molotov cocktail into the residence of Penang Chief Minister and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng late yesterday.

MCA vice-president Chew Mei Fun in a statement said that despite the political differences of both sides, the party disapproves any incidents of political violence.

"Irrespective of the political agenda behind this heinous crime, we strongly condemn all forms of violence.

“While we may sit on the opposing sides of the political fence, nevertheless MCA will criticise any occurrence of violence," she said.

Chew said that the people's level of tolerance is becoming "increasingly low", leading to more physical intimidation acts.

"The repeated occurrence of political violence is a major cause of concern, because if it is not addressed, it may easily turn into a political norm," said Chew, who is also a senator and deputy women, family and community development minister.

She urged the police to identify the culprits and bring them to justice.

Nobody was injured in the incident that took place merely minutes before Merdeka celebrations begun, as the Molotov Cocktail was hurled into the driveway and exploded there.
