The individual chosen as the new menteri besar should have the capability to administer the state, said Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

He said without one's own capability, the individual is not eligible to take on the post.     

"The menteri besar was strictly selected based on capability," he told reporters after attending a prayer session in conjunction with the state level 57th Merdeka Day celebration in Shah Alam today.
 
Abdul Khalid was commenting on reports which quoted sources close to the sultan that the menteri besar selected should be an effective leader who has the interests of the people and could administer without being controlled by anybody.

Recently, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah postponed the resignation of Abdul Khalid as Selangor menteri besar until his successor has been appointed.

Wait till Wednesday

Meanwhile, Khalid said he will issue a statement on his position as Selangor menteri besar on Wednesday.

"I cannot comment and I will only issue a statement on it this Wednesday," he told reporters after officiating the Selangor state level Book Fest in Shah Alam later today.

Khalid was asked to comment on his position as menteri besar after the sultan obtained the names of candidates as the new Selangor menteri besar from the ruling Pakatan Rakyat.
