I was a first-time voter in 1999. When I presented my IC at a registration counter at the polling station, the officer on duty checked the roll and declared that my name was not in the list. I told her that I had checked SPR (Election Commission) website, my name was there and my polling station was correct. She then told me to go to another counter 30 feet away.

At the second counter, I gave my IC to another officer and he did the same, running through a roll and declaring that my name was not in the list. I was furious and told him off sternly. Then, he bent sideways and pulled out another register from under the table. My name was located in this hidden register and I was then allowed to go in to vote.

And when I reached the polling booth, there was a BN name card on the table!
