Frustrated with PAS over its twists and turns over the political imbroglio in Selangor, the state DAP is pondering the need for Pakatan Rakyat’s continued existence.

The matter was briefly discussed during an emergency meeting of the Selangor DAP last night.

Speaking to Malaysiakini , Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua ( right ) said: "When PAS refuses to honour its promises, and stubbornly refused to back the president of our fellow coalition partner as the new MB, perhaps it is time to reflect and ponder over the continued purpose and existence of the coalition."

However, Pua added, no conclusive decision was made on this issue.

He was referring to the PAS meeting yesterday, where it was decided that the party would allow the sultan to pick a candidate to replace current Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

On Aug 17, the PAS central committee decided to nominate PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail ( left ) and her deputy Azmin Ali for the post.

In 2001, DAP quit the then opposition alliance Barisan Alternatif after its top leaders crossed swords with PAS over the latter's Islamic state agenda.

Both these parties have often found themselves at loggerheads over their diametrically opposed ideologies.
