Abdul Khalid Ibrahim should stop hiding behind the state monarch in his bid to cling on as Selangor Menteri Besar, said DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.

Lim was responding to Khalid's rebuttal for his critics who have accused the MB of misleading the sultan to write to the monarch themselves on the mater.

This is in reference to Khalid's Aug 11 audience with the Selangor sultan where he obtained consent to stay on as menteri besar after claiming he still had majority support in the state assembly.

"It is pointless for Khalid to pass the buck and suggest that those accusing him of misleading the Selangor sultan write to the ruler himself for an explanation.

"The question is not an explanation from the sultan, but an explanation from him.

"The issue is not whether the sultan was satisfied on Aug 11 that Khalid had the confidence of the majority of the Selangor assembly representatives, but why Khalid had made false representation to the sultan that he had the majority support in the state assembly when clearly he did not have it," said Lim.

Lim questioned Khalid's basis to claim majority support when DAP's 15 representatives and PKR's 13 representatives, which make up half of the house, had pledged support for PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the new menteri besar.

They were further joined by two more PAS representatives on Aug 14, giving Wan Azizah a majority over Khalid.

Lim said the menteri besar crisis was created by Khalid himself who refused to resign gracefully as Pakatan parties on their part have already showed who enjoyed the real majority.

He warned if Khalid attempted to dissolve the state assembly, it would be a double mockery of the state constitution and Pakatan's landslide win in Selangor during the 13th general election.

'Khalid will lose in state election'

"There is no basis for Khalid to request a dissolution of the Selangor state assembly as firstly, he does not represent any semblance of a substantial assembly grouping to make such a request.

"And secondly, the state assembly is not paralysed by a lack of a commanding majority for a new mentri besar and new state government to be formed," he said.

Lim added that even if Khalid were to dissolve the state assembly, he would never be able to win if he contested in the subsequent state election.

He said the honourable thing for Khalid to do now is to convene a state assembly sitting to prove who commands the majority support.

Meanwhile, PKR vice president N Surendran (right) queried if Khalid had come clean when he communicated with the Selangor sultan yesterday.

Khalid yesterday said the Selangor sultan has imposed a gag order on him until tomorrow, when PAS is to convene to officially decide whether it still backs the embattled menteri besar.

"Whilst the sultan's wishes must be respected, we ask of Khalid whether he had communicated to the monarch the following that on Aug 14, he had lost the confidence of the majority of members of the state assembly," said Surendran in a statement this morning.

He also queried if Khalid had offered his resignation following the los of confidence.

'Khalid was constitutionally duty-bound to communicate the above to the sultan. Did he do so?" asked Surendran.
