Activist bind hands to MB's office gate

A group of activists has staged a “black ribbon” protest against Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim today, demanding that he step down from office.
A group of activists has staged a “black ribbon” protest against Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim today, demanding that he step down from office.
About 20 protesters from the group known as “Kembalikan Selangorku” (Return My Selangor) first gathered in front of Khalid’s Port Klang constituency service centre before proceeding to Selangor State building in Shah Alam.
They wore black ribbons and tied themselves to the gate of the building, where the MB's office is, signifying the demise of democracy in the country’s most developed state.
The ribbons were also distributed to the public in efforts to explain the movement.
Some protesters were seen holding placards, which among others read “Khalid, we voted for Pakatan Rakyat, not you”, “Please step down for the sake of democracy” and “Umno ketawa, rakyat menangis (Umno laughs the rakyat cry)”.
However, the activists were chased away by the security personnel following an attempt to enter the compounds of the state secretariat building.
The security personnel shut them out of the building by closing the gate.
The movement representative Ng Yap Hwa said Pakatan coalition was voted to be the state government, but not Khalid himself.
Wan Azizah has no scandals
Asked if the movement supports PKR’s MB nominee and party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to be the next Selangor menteri besar, Ng refused to answer, stressing that it was only a “people’s movement”.
“Who they want to choose as the member besar is the party’s (PKR’s) own business… Since Wan Azizah was never involved in any scandal, we shall not comment, unless they want to send a very corrupted candidate, then we will oppose,” Ng said.
He added that the “Black Ribbon” movement aims at protesting against Khalid’s alleged abuse of power in sacking exco members from PKR and DAP, who were elected by the people.
Another movement representative Cheng Fui Lien said Khalid should step down as the MB as 30 of the 56 Selangor assemblypersons have declared support to the PKR president.
Cheng said that the movement hopes Pakatan can continue to fulfill the trust given to them by Selangor voters, who do not wish to have an Independent menteri besar to represent them.
Cheng also thanked the two assemblypersons members from PAS who pledged support for Wan Azizah.
