When I read that Sultan of Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah wants the people of the state to continue backing the government in the next general election, I cannot help but think that the sultan is unsure what his position is about in the Malaysian constitution.

The position of the sultan is non-partisan and for him to issue such a statement shows that Malaysian rulers do not even understand the constitution. This goes for all institutions like the police, armed forces, where the head of these units have been seen to attend Umno functions.

I cannot imagine the governor-general of Australia asking Australians to vote for a particular political party or for the Australian police chief to attend a Labour or Liberal party convention.

In Bolehland, everything is possible. The PM is correct, Malaysia has first-class infrastructure... but third-class mentality.
