Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said he would not be appointing Umno reps into the state executive council for now.

Speaking to reporters, the independent menteri besar said he has not discussed the matter with the sultan of Selangor.

Responding to a question on whether he had raised this with the ruler, Khalid replied: "At the moment, no."

"I have discussed with the sultan and he advised me to keep it to the current situation in order to ensure stability and development in Selangor," he added.

Earlier, PAS said it would withdraw from the exco should the menteri besar rope in Umno reps.

"The question of Umno does not arise. It is not in the (state) government.

"It will not work if Umno is in the exco. PAS will leave," state exco for Islamic affairs, agricultural modernisation and rural development Sallehen Mukhyi said at the state secretariat building in Shah Alam.

Yesterday, Khalid sacked five state excos from DAP and PKR, who refused to work with him following his expulsion from PKR.

Explaining his decision this afternoon, the menteri besar said he terminated the services of the excos because they had violated their pledge and oath of office.

Despite denials from both sides, speculation was rife that Umno has a hand in the current crisis plaguing the state, considered the crown jewel in Pakatan Rakyat’s electoral chest.

Recently, Khalid’s presence at a buka puasa event, which was attended by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, had tongues wagging about a potential alliance.

However, both Najib and Khalid’s camp denied that there was a hidden agenda and also dismissed reports of a secret meeting between the duo following the function.

Umno has also vowed to back the embattled menteri besar even if there is a vote of no confidence in the state assembly.

PKR had sacked Khalid after he refused to relinquish his post.

While DAP is backing its ally on this issue, PAS, however, has chosen a different stand, leading Khalid to retain the Islamic party’s four excos.

This has prompted speculation that the opposition bloc is headed towards a break-up.
