A PAS Selangor executive council member has warned that the Islamic party will not hesitate to leave the state government if Umno representatives are invited in.

State exco for Islamic Affairs, Agricultural Modernisation and Rural Development Sallehen Mukhyi, went on to reaffirm PAS' stance that it will work with embattled Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

"The question of Umno does not arise. It is not in the (state) government. It will not work if Umno is in the exco. PAS will leave," he said at the state secretariat building in Shah Alam.

This comes with the sacking of six PKR and DAP exco members by as Khalid yesterday for refusing to support him.

'Don't ask provocative questions'

Apart from Sallehen, two other PAS exco members Halimah Ali and Yunus Hairi also arrived to attend the exco meeting with Khalid. Another exco member, Iskandar Samad, has yet to arrive.

Asked why he was attending the meeting when PKR and DAP asked PAS to boycott it, Yunus (left) said he was following his party’s instruction and that he was here “for the rakyat”.

"I was chosen by the sultan. I am performing my duties for the rakyat," he added.

Asked whether he was disobeying Pakatan Rakyat's instruction, Yunus said: "Don't ask provocative questions, it's not good."

Last night, PKR and DAP demanded that the four PAS Selangor exco members boycott the meeting following the sacking of the six PKR and DAP exco members by Khalid.

'We will safeguard Pakatan’s interests'

Iskandar Samad later reaffirmed his colleague’s stance, saying that they will leave the Selangor government should Umno assemblymen be appointed as exco members.

“PAS is still in Pakatan. We will safeguard Pakatan’s interests in the government. We still carry the coalition spirit of Pakatan and we will stick to its principles."

He added that PAS had made “a huge sacrifice” by staying in the government.

“This is so that the government’s programmes can continue. This is so that the rakyat will not be in the losing end in this crisis."

He also stressed that they (PAS exco members) will ensure that Umno will not take advantage of the situation.
